| As family members of 15 year old Danah Alleyne attempt to put behind them, the April, 2007 incident ,where Alleyne was featured in a lewd dancing act with R&B/Hip Hop singer Akon at the Zen nightclub, old wounds are again re-surfacing, but in a different form. Dana is being given an award by Choc'late Allen, leader of the 100% Crime Free Youth Committee.
Choc’late yesterday announced that her committee had decided to name Alleyne as one of the recipients of a "Youth Motivator Award". Asked why the committee had decided to select the teenager, Allen said it was because "she was the most courageous person for the first half of 2007".
But this decision has sparked severe outbursts from Dana’s older brother, Ian Alleyne. Mr. Alleyne says he does not believe Dana deserves the award.
Mr. Alleyne said giving an award to Dana now could set a bad precedent for other young women.
He insisted that the awards should instead be given to the top achievers in this year’s SEA exam.
