Politics : Ramesh challenges Manning to sue him

Former Attorney General Ramesh Lawrence Maharaj challenged Prime Minister Patrick Manning to sue him over Maharaj's allegations that an energy company gave a house to Manning and provided scholarships for his son to study in Germany.

Maharaj was speaking at the last meeting of the UNC Alliance ahead of Saturday's mass rally in Aranguez, the birthplace of the United National Congress (UNC).

Maharaj was commenting on Manning's decision to sue the Sunday Express newspaper for an investigative report alleging the same information Maharaj disclosed on the platform.

In addition theExpress printed a photo of cheque that it said was made out to Manning's People's National Movement (PNM) for $2.5 million.

Manning had given the paper an opportunity to apolgize for printing what he said are defamatory statements made against him.

The lawsuit also seeks to stop the Express Newspapers from publishing anything further on the matter.

Manning's attorney, Anthony Bullock, filed the statement of claim against journalist Camini Marajh and the paper after the paper's attorneys denied liability in connection with the report.
