The US State Department yesterday released a statement that aired on CNN last night, announcing that they are currently looking into the disappearance of two students from Brown University who were vacationing in Trinidad and Tobago for Spring Break.

The two who were expected to return to the university in Providence,Rhode Island at the start of the week had not appeared.

The CNN report did not give the names of the students for privacy reasons, but local authorities were able to confirm that they are searching for one American woman last seen in Tobago and identified as Sophia Roy, an African American, 21 years old with curly hair about five feet nine inches tall and about 120 pounds.

The US State Department’s website has an advisory to travelers to Trinidad and Tobago to be on guard.

The website warns that there have been violent crimes including, assault, kidnapping for ransom, sexual assault and murder that have involved foreign residents and tourists and adds that some of these crimes remain unsolved with no suspects arrested.
