David Abdullah, President of the Independent Trade Unions and Non-Government Organizations (FITUN) said the exclusion of Cuba from the Summit of the Americas would undermine attempts to find regional solutions to problems.
Abdullah was able to add that despite Cuba’s exclusion from the summit, a delegation of socialist activists, trade unionists, non profit, and community groups from Cuba will be participating in the IV Summit of the Peoples’ to be held from the April 16th to the 18th in Trinidad and Tobago to coincide with the Summit of the Americas.
Abdullah is calling for the removal US economic and trade embargo against Cuba, which was introduced in 1961, and said that this was already listed as an issue to be discussed at the Peoples’ Summit; he added that the United States government’s failure to mend diplomatic relations with Cuba has restricted growth and development in the Caribbean island.
